太陽と月

The sun and moon do not judge, label, or distinguish; they just shine and everything takes from them accordingly. Sun and moon are about balance and harmony, and compassion and wisdom. – Frans Stiene (Reiki author and teacher).

Hello and welcome to Sun Moon Reiki.

More and more people are now introducing Reiki into their lives. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “universal life” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Energy nourishes and maintains all life throughout our planet. We feel more stressed and weak when our energy is low and we are more likely to become unwell. We feel more joyful, positive and energetic when it is high.

In the book ‘Your Reiki Treatment’ by Frans Stiene, he explains that universal life force energy contains both negative and positive energy. The Chinese call this Yin and Yang and in Japanese the two elements are called In and Yo. These are not words for good and bad, they are representing dual elements such as Heaven and Earth, male and female and the sun and the moon. By balancing these dual elements within you begin to resonate fully with life force energy. 太陽と月- translates ‘the sun and the moon’ in a Japanese style of writing called Kanji.

Reiki can activate a sense of renewal and well-being. It can help with many problems including stress and anxiety. You do not need to be feeling unwell to benefit, there are many rewards including feeling peaceful, relaxed and enjoying a wonderful experience. Treatment can also result in a person feeling balanced, making healthier lifestyle choices and promoting their own spiritual growth.

The practise of Reiki is completely safe and there are no contraindications. As a natural form of healing, it can support and enhance other complementary and conventional treatments. Reiki should never be viewed as a cure for any medical condition but it may reduce unpleasant symptoms and speed up recovery time, after for instance, having surgery.

About Reiki

Reiki as defined by the Oxford English dictionary is: “A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being”.

The tradition of Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. According to the inscription on his memorial stone, Usui taught Reiki to over 2000 people during his lifetime. His presence continues to live by the knowledge and wisdom he shared which has become highly valued and preserved by Reiki practitioners today.

Reiki was described by Dr Usui in his manual, ”The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai” as being ”intuitive”. It seems to go where needed or flow in response to the demand or need of the recipient. Reiki was helped to be introduced to the West by Hawayo Takata, she taught that reiki goes to causes and knows exactly what needs to be done at that moment.Reiki works on all levels, the physical, spiritual, and emotional. Reiki can help energise and heal the body. Research studies have shown that it can speed up wound healing time, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and can also be very effective as part of a regimen to manage pain.

On the website of the International Association of Reiki Professionals, there are some very interesting articles about the study of using Reiki to assist with other illnesses.

Reiki is not a religion nor a new age practise. It has been used by practitioners with all different types of beliefs including Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

Reiki is a spiritual practise that compliments any faith as a hands-on healing practice. If you wish you can find out much more here.

About Me

Reiki encourages and supports positive personal choices, such as improving diet, taking more exercise, devoting time for rest or leisure activities, and may reduce the need for alcohol and tobacco. Creating greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges.

My name is Richard Averillo, I’m originally from North London but now living in Sandwich, Kent.

I was introduced to a Reiki Master at a function I attended in Cornwall in 2009. We discussed the therapy and its beneficial qualities in great detail, I found it extremely interesting. Although I had not heard of Reiki before, the theory and method of healing somehow seemed very familiar to me.

The Reiki Master then demonstrated Reiki on a few willing members of the public. It was wonderful to observe the effects of the treatment first-hand. I was hooked and I decided there and then that I wanted to learn this spiritual art of healing. Two months later, I completed my Reiki first level/degree (Shoden) and that’s where my journey began.

Reiki Kanji

Once attuned to Reiki my lifestyle started to gradually evolve, I made many changes to improve my own well-being. These choices included quitting smoking, a reduction in alcohol consumption, a healthier balanced diet, daily meditation and taking exercise on a regular basis.

I am grateful to Reiki for being such an important part of my life over the last 10 years. Helping people with this form of spiritual healing is a wonderful experience. I’m excited to see how my connection with Reiki progresses in the future. When I sensed it was the correct point in time, I completed the Second level/degree (Okuden). Once attuned to this level it is possible to practise Reiki on a professional basis.

I intend to continue developing my connection with Reiki. I will be taking the third degree/master level (Shinpiden) in 2022. As a Reiki Master, I will have access to teach and support people through their own personal journey.

Treatments

Reiki practitioners draw on this higher energy, which flows into them and out through their hands, into the person they are working with to assist in healing. Reiki is spiritual in nature and also scientific in nature.

Before you decide where to have a Reiki treatment there are three main points to consider.

  1. Is the practitioner qualified to treat people?
  2. Is he/she fully insured?
  3. Are they part of a recognised official body?

If the answer to all these questions is yes, then that’s a great start!

You will also want someone who clearly describes the whole process and how they structure the actual session. Knowing exactly what the practitioner will do throughout the therapy session will help you relax and feel confident. Good communication with you and the practitioner will really help the effectiveness of the treatment. There is no need to discuss very private matters but it is beneficial to let the practitioner know about your needs and expectations.

Once the upcoming treatment session has been discussed and before it begins you will need to sign a consent form. This is a normal procedure that’s carried out by most good professionals who offer complementary therapy.

The whole session time will be 90 minutes and the actual Reiki treatment lasts for one hour of this time. The practitioner will ask the client to lay down on a therapy table, you do not remove any clothing for Reiki, other than your shoes. The treatment will involve a process of hands on/hands off Reiki. Each person experiences Reiki differently, but many clients feel a deep sense of relaxation, along with a loss of tension, fear, and anxiety. Some people fall asleep during the treatment, while others report floating outside their bodies or having visions or related experiences.

People in general feel freshened when their Reiki session is over, and they have an outlook that is more calm, balanced and positive than before they came to see the Reiki practitioner. Once you have rested for a few moments the practitioner will gently help you sit up and they will offer you some water to drink. This is followed by a brief discussion about the treatment you’ve just received. This time will also provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding the session.
